Number Theory Day is a celebration of all things number theory at the University of Connecticut. In Spring 2025, Number Theory Day will take place on April 23rd.
Schedule:
- MONT 214 (1:25 – 2:15) – Álvaro Lozano-Robledo (UConn) will speak on “New Records and Breakthroughs in Number Theory”.

Abstract and title for the main event:
Title: Complex Multiplication
Abstract: Gauss showed that only a compass and ruler are required to divide a circle into 17 equal parts. He was so fond of this fact, he wanted a regular 17-gon on his tombstone. “Complex multiplication” is a similar construction, in which the circle gets replaced with a torus (donut shape). David Hilbert is said to have remarked that the theory of complex multiplication of elliptic curves was not only the most beautiful part of mathematics but of all science. In this talk, we’ll explain the unity of two facts: one, that the polynomial x^2 + x + 41 assumes prime values for x = 0,…,39, and two, that
